The task

“You are designing a mobile app for a brand new coffee maker brand "AiCoffee" (feel free to change the name of the app or create a simple logo). These coffee makers are top of the line technology that allows users to know everything about their machine and make coffee right from their phone.”

Minimum requirements: Design in High-Fidelity the following flows to allow user to:

1. Connect/Sync my brand new coffee maker with my phone
2. Check the status of my machine. Does it have enough water? How about coffee? Maybe it needs some maintenance?
3. Make coffee or schedule it to brew at a specific hour directly from my phone, choose the number of cups and intensity of the brew
4. Buy coffee beans when I run out of my favorite blend of "AiCoffee" specialty brews.

To consider:

• "AiCoffee" is a highly ambitious company. Coffee makers are just the beginning. Keep in mind how your design will scale over time, when other products are introduced to the app.
• Less is more, we want this app to be extremely simple to use. Only incorporate elements that add value to the experience.
• We love innovators and crazy ideas, take this challenge as far as you want, create features, branding, anything, as long as it adds value it's welcomed.

The beginning. Naming considerations

First of all, i thought about the name. Since “AiCoffee” seems a bit generic, I wanted to add some character to the brand. And, in my opinion, “cocoa” seems more friendly and inviting, still not losing any context. Word “ai” tends to be super-hyped now, so I preferred to avoid it too. I decided that “-tech” is still near in associations list with “ai”, yet it’s still pretty understandable to what it’s related to. An intelligent system or ecosystem, helping coffee lovers to enjoy their drinks with the latest achievements in a technology (which are threatening to increase overall unemployment levels drastically, but that’s another story :) Btw it was pretty obvious to try “coco.ai”, but “coco” is leading it to the other direction, having unwanted connotations. So, this is how cocoa.tech was born! Additionally “cocoa” can be replaced to something more general if the brand outgrows the coffee domain and scales.
